Many of the questions we bring to counseling, center around what’s not working, which can point us to wounds in need of healing. Thankfully, we have been blessed with an abundance of evidence-based practices and tools to help us in this process. In our work with clients, we also pay careful attention to what we call ‘resourcing,’ which focuses on noticing and giving thanks for all that helps us feel comforted, safe, and loved. When we can anchor into some goodness, walking through pain becomes more bearable.
The Bible has given us clear instructions in this practice:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8 KJV
Some people find it helpful to refer to irritating things as triggers and to lovely things as glimmers. What have you noticed today?
